The Person Behind the Company

TBG Contracting was built by Matt Ecklund, a construction professional with years of commercial experience who believes the way you build matters as much as what you build.

Why TBG Exists

Matt Ecklund, owner of TBG Contracting

TBG Contracting didn't start with a business plan. It started with a conviction.

After years managing commercial construction projects for other firms, Matt watched the same thing happen over and over. A client would call with a simple question about their budget. That call would bounce to a coordinator, then to accounting, then back to a PM who'd been pulled onto a different project. Three days later, maybe the client got an answer. Maybe they didn't. The project kept moving. The trust didn't.

To build a company where the owner is the one answering your call.

Matt started TBG to do it differently. To build a company where the owner is the one answering your call. Where transparency isn't a marketing term, it's the default. Where every project is managed with the kind of care and accountability that comes from someone who has their name on the door and their reputation on the line.

The name “Taking Back Ground” reflects that mission. It's about reclaiming what matters in this industry: trust, honest communication, and the belief that how you build is just as important as what you build. It's about restoring a standard of care that gets lost when companies grow past the point of personal accountability.

What Matt Brings to the Table

Matt's background spans years of hands-on construction management, with deep roots in commercial work: tenant improvements, office buildouts, retail spaces, clinics, educational facilities, and public projects. That same discipline and care now extends to large-scale residential projects, including whole home renovations and additions. He's managed budgets, coordinated subcontractors, navigated complex timelines, and solved the kinds of problems that only show up once a project is already in motion.

Matt has the experience. But experience is table stakes in this industry. What actually changes the outcome is how he operates: direct communication, honest numbers, and personal accountability on every single project. When you work with TBG, you're not getting a sales pitch followed by a handoff. You're getting a construction partner who's personally invested in your outcome from the first conversation to the final walkthrough.

What Drives TBG

Five core values guide everything we do: Integrity, Humility, Stewardship, Excellence, and Restoration. These aren't aspirational. They're operational. Every decision, every conversation, every line item runs through this filter.
